Terms

For lkutils.uk and the Paper Lens Android app · Last updated 10 August 2026

Short, and in plain English, because terms nobody can read protect nobody. If any of it seems unreasonable, say so at hello@lkutils.uk.

1. Who these terms are with

This website and the Paper Lens application are provided by Lalit Khokhar, trading as lkutils ("I", "me"). Using the site or the app means accepting what is on this page.

2. Your licence to use the app

Paper Lens is free. You are given a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on devices you control, for any purpose including work, for as long as you like. You do not owe anything for it and no part of it is withheld behind a payment.

You may not:

  • sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app or a modified version of it;
  • decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer it, except to the extent the law expressly permits you to despite this clause;
  • remove or obscure any notice of ownership in it; or
  • use it to break the law, including copying documents you have no right to copy.

The app is licensed to you, not sold. I keep ownership of it and of everything in it.

3. Your documents are yours

Everything you scan belongs entirely to you. I claim no rights over it, gain no licence to it, and — because the app has no network access — never see it. Nothing in these terms gives me any interest in your files, and no future version will acquire one without you being asked first.

You are responsible for what you scan and for having the right to scan it.

4. Keep your own backups

Paper Lens can write your whole library to a backup file, and your scans are ordinary files you can copy anywhere. Please do copy them somewhere. Phones are lost, dropped and wiped, and no software — this one included — should be the only place something important exists.

5. What is promised, and what is not

The app is provided as is. It is tested on real devices before every release and the standards it is held to are published, but no software is free of defects and no reasonable person would claim otherwise. To the extent the law allows, I make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose you have in mind.

In particular, a scan made with Paper Lens is a photograph of a document. It is not a certified copy, and whether anyone accepts it is entirely up to them.

6. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, I am not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of data arising from your use of the app or this site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid for the app — which is nothing.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, the rights given to you by the consumer protection law of the country you live in are unaffected by anything on this page.

7. Changes, and the app going away

Versions change. Features can be added, altered or withdrawn, and support for old Android versions ends eventually. If the app is ever discontinued, your scans are unaffected: they are standard files in a folder you chose, and they do not stop working when an app does. That is a deliberate property of how it stores things, and it is the reason it stores them that way.

8. Google Play

When you install Paper Lens from Google Play, Google's own terms apply to that transaction as well as these. Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app.

9. This website

The text, design and images on lkutils.uk are © lkutils, all rights reserved. The site's source code is published on GitHub so that the claims made on it — no cookies, no analytics, no third-party requests — can be verified. Publishing it for inspection is not a licence to reuse it.

You may quote and link to the site normally. "lkutils" and "Paper Lens", and the marks used for them, are mine.

The site is provided as is. Links to other sites are given for convenience and I am not responsible for what is on them.

10. Privacy

How data is handled is covered separately and in detail in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of the app or this site.

If you are a consumer living in another country, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country you live in, or of the right to bring a claim where those laws say you may.

12. If part of this is unenforceable

If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest of them continue to apply.

13. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them, and the previous wording stays visible in the site's public commit history.
